Nanny thwarts kidnap attempt in Central Park playground
A woman tried to snatch a 2-year-old boy playing on a swingset in Central Park this week — but was shooed away by the child’s nanny, authorities said Friday.
The would-be kidnapper entered the Heckscher Playground near Center Drive and W. 59th St. around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and tried to abduct the child from a swing but was stopped by the nanny, who was with the toddler’s brother nearby.
The woman — believed to be 32 years old, 5-foot-2 and 140 pounds with curly black hair — fled the playground alone.
The victim’s family reported the incident Thursday and helped police cobble together a sketch of the woman.
Cops are asking anyone with information regarding this woman’s whereabouts to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
